At Pets, our aim is to give the nation’s pets what they need to be at their ball‑chasing, tail‑wagging best. Because we will not rest until every spaniel has a squeezy toy. Every calico has a cat tree. Every rabbit has a run.

We are motivated to find the best talent in the Logistics & Distribution industry. Right now, we are looking for a Senior Operations Manager – Inbound Operations to join our team at our Distribution Centre.

The Role

This is more than an inbound operations role – it’s a senior leadership position responsible for the end‑to‑end flow of stock entering our Fulfilment Centre, from supplier delivery through to storage, stock integrity, and availability.

You’ll take ownership of all Inbound Delivery, Goods‑In, Checking, and Put‑Away activities in a high‑volume, multi‑channel environment. With up to 3000 pallets arriving daily, you will ensure stock is received accurately, processed efficiently, and put away within strict service levels to support both retail stores and ecommerce fulfilment.

Working closely with Supply Chain, Carriers, and the wider Senior Management Team, you’ll drive operational excellence, strengthen supplier delivery performance, and build high‑performing teams that consistently meet demanding KPIs, stock accuracy goals, and availability targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all inbound deliveries, goods‑in, checking, and put‑away operations.
  • Ensure safe, accurate receipt of up to 3000 pallets per day, achieving 100% stock accuracy.
  • Deliver the 24‑hour SLA for all wide‑aisle pallets into pick‑face or storage locations.
  • Maintain outstanding stock availability to support retail and ecommerce channels.
  • Drive workflow optimisation across receiving, checking, and put‑away to minimise touches and reduce congestion.
  • Use data, reporting, and operational insight to identify bottlenecks and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strong cost control across labour, MHE, and stock loss, ensuring efficient resource use.
  • Build, lead, and develop engaged, motivated inbound teams, creating a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • Ensure all colleagues are trained in goods‑in and put‑away processes, and operate safely at all times.
  • Manage Return‑to‑Vendor processes in partnership with Supply Chain.
  • Collaborate with 3PLs, carriers, and suppliers to enhance delivery performance and accuracy.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Proven experience leading inbound operations in a retail, ecommerce, or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of goods‑in, supplier delivery management, and put‑away processes.
  • Ability to interpret inbound, financial, and operational reports to make informed decisions.
  • Experience driving stock integrity and minimising stock loss.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills to manage variable inbound volumes.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with experience delivering operational change.

Desirable

  • Experience implementing inbound scheduling systems, ASNs, or dock‑management tools.
  • Knowledge of WMS functions related to receiving, put‑away, and stock control.
  • Experience working with 3PLs, carriers, or suppliers to improve delivery performance.

What You Will Get in Return

  • Attractive rates of pay.
  • Annual leave (including Bank Holidays), increasing after 2 years’ continuous service.
  • An extra day’s holiday on your birthday.
  • Stakeholder pension plan.
  • Personal Health Insurance scheme (when enrolled in the pension scheme).
  • Life assurance.
  • 20% Pets at Home colleague discount after 12 weeks’ service.
  • Pets “Treats” voluntary benefits package.
  • Annual performance‑related bonus.
