Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next step into leadership? Whether you’re already operating at Lead Vet level or looking for a genuine pathway toward Senior Vet or Clinical Director responsibilities, this is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a growing, forward-thinking small animal practice in the heart of Derbyshire.

We’re relaunching under new ownership and building something special — a supportive, ambitious, and genuinely enjoyable place to work, where clinical excellence and team culture go hand in hand.

About Us

We are a standalone small animal clinic in Heanor, Derbyshire, with a newly rebranded and beautifully maintained practice that still feels brand new. Our caseload is steadily growing, and we’re focused on expanding both our client base and clinical offering, including developing more advanced surgical procedures in-house.

Our practice is fully equipped with:

  • Dedicated operating theatre
  • Multiparameter monitoring
  • Digital radiography
  • Dental radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • In-house biochemistry and haematology laboratory
  • Separate dog, cat and isolation wards

Our Team

Our team is one of our biggest strengths — friendly, inclusive, highly supportive, and passionate about providing exceptional patient and client care. We work collaboratively, support one another daily, and genuinely enjoy spending time together.

You’ll be joining a team that includes:

  • An experienced part-time Vet Practice Owner with interests in ECC, surgery, soft tissue surgery and avian medicine
  • A passionate Lead Practice Owner Nurse with interests in behaviour, fear-free practice and Schedule 3 surgery
  • An experienced ECC nurse
  • A new graduate nurse with an interest in exotics joining soon
  • An excellent front-of-house team with varied GP and ECC experience
  • A new graduate vet requiring GDP support and mentorship

We are particularly keen to welcome a vet who enjoys coaching and mentoring others, helping to shape clinical standards and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

Professional Development & Culture

Our team actively invests in growth and wellbeing. Current and ongoing training includes:

  • Mental Health First Aid training
  • Schedule 3 surgical qualifications
  • Ultrasound training
  • Behaviour and training certifications
  • Exotic anaesthesia and surgical experience

We have also applied for:

  • Dogs Trust Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation
  • Autism Friendly Practice status

The Role

This role would suit an experienced GP small animal vet looking to:

  • Take ownership and influence clinical direction
  • Develop advanced surgical services
  • Mentor graduates and support GDP development
  • Help build a thriving, progressive practice culture
  • Potentially step into Lead Vet or Clinical Director responsibilities over time

We’re looking for someone proactive, approachable and clinically confident, with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Life in Heanor, Derbyshire

Heanor offers the perfect balance of community, countryside and accessibility. The clinic is just a short walk from the town centre, with excellent transport links to Derby, Nottingham and surrounding areas.

You’ll also enjoy:

  • Beautiful local countryside including Shipley Country Park
  • Easy access to the Peak District
  • Strong local community feel
  • Free on-site parking
  • A growing local team culture with plans for regular social events and celebrations

And finally, you’ll also get to meet Ned — our Vet Practice Owners lovable Labrador and unofficial wellbeing officer, who regularly visits the practice to boost morale with his wonderfully goofy personality.

If you’re looking for a role where you can genuinely make your mark, influence the future of a practice, and work alongside a supportive and ambitious team, we’d love to hear from you.
