About us:
Halesowen Vets for Pets has been locally owned for over 8 years by practice owners Michelle and Ian who are both highly experienced surgeons, with Michelle already a certificate holder and Ian in the final stages of completion. Our vets are supported by a highly skilled nurse team. Our current Head Nurse who has been with us for over 5 years, is on maternity leave and will be returning to us later in the summer working fewer hours as a Senior Nurse. We have a brilliant clinical team of 3.5 vets and 4 RVN’s, and they are supported by a VCA, 4 Client Care Advisors and our Practice Manager (RVN).
The practice Based in the heart of the community, as a standalone site we see a varied caseload with a high proportion of insured clients. We are exclusively small animals predominantly cats and dogs with the very occasional rabbit and other small furry.
We are passionate about high quality care and service. We have all the usual equipment plus dental x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, Kyon TPLO equipment, harmonic scalpel and K-laser. We aim to keep the majority of our caseload in house, but we are within 45 minutes of a quality referral hospital if needed. Our nursing team are all involved in these cases and so there are significant opportunities to scrub into theatre, do complex anaesthetics and help with medical investigations and inpatient care. We are also happy to support all team members with opportunities for further development and a certificate, or an interest in doing one, would be an advantage.
What your day looks like : The clinic is open from 8am-7pm weekdays, 9am-1pm Saturday. Bank holidays are worked on a rota basis and we’re not open on Sundays. Our Saturday rota will be 1 in 4, along with a consulting vet and CCA.
We believe in a good work-life balance so we can accommodate a somewhat flexible rota.
About you:
You will have a good experience of veterinary nursing, excellent customer service and communication skills, be an effective team player and able to use your own initiative when required. You are friendly, organised and down-to-earth, have a genuine interest in animal welfare and enjoy the variety provided by the clients and colleagues alike. You will not necessarily need to have experience with the broad range of cases seen in the practice but would need to be a fast learner who is keen to get involved in all parts of the job. Previous Clinical Coach experience would be advantageous but not essential, although an interest in becoming a Clinical Coach and supporting our students is a must.
Your role will include:
- Leading, supporting and inspiring the nursing and VCA team on a day-to-day basis, including training and mentoring
- Acting as a role model across all aspects of clinical nursing
- Help to streamline and optimise workflows to ensure smooth practice operations
- To champion nurse-led consults and support their growth within the practice
- Participating in appraisals, clinical audits, and team development initiatives
- Encouraging individual clinical interests and professional growth across the nursing team
We’re keen for all colleagues to have a voice and share ideas to have a real impact on the success of our practice and drive the business forward. You will help with the daily running of the practice and lead by example, using your training and experience to its fullest to mentor others, whilst delivering the highest standards of client and patient care.
