We are recruiting!

APPRENTICE STUDENT VETERINARY NURSE POSITION.

*Looking to start a career in veterinary practice?

*Maybe you already work in practice and fancy a change?

*Have you been dreaming of becoming a Veterinary Nurse?

If so, then now is your chance!

We are looking for a friendly Student Veterinary Nurse to join our lovely team here in our locally owned small animal veterinary practice inside Pets at Home, Shrewsbury.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working with people and who loves animals.

You will work alongside an experienced team in our Royal College approved training practice, with support and guidance as you learn the role. You will initially spend much time front-of-house, based on the reception desk greeting clients and their pets, with some time behind the scenes supporting the clinical team in their role and caring for patients. Over time, with training, this will progress into a more clinical based role. You will be enrolled on an apprenticeship course at a local college, attending one day a week, to become a Qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse!

No two days are ever the same in veterinary! You should expect to be doing a variety of tasks on any given day to include answering the phone, booking appointments, cleaning, tidying, lab work, supporting the clinical team in their work, caring for patients and admin tasks to name just a few. With training and time you will progress to undertaking your own nurse clinics, monitoring anaesthetics and nursing patients amongst other clinical tasks.

You will be working a variety of shifts, including some 8.15am starts and 7pm finishes, with hours totalling up to 38.5 hours in the week plus one in three Saturday mornings. There will also be opportunities to work additional shifts covering holidays and team absence.

What we’re looking for....

The right candidate will strive to help clients and their pets have a positive experience by working together as a team to create a welcoming, positive and friendly atmosphere. You will need to think on your feet, being adaptive, flexible and working well within the team to help the practice run smoothly.

  • Reliable and organised individual
  • Positive can do attitude
  • Great problem solving, listening and communication skills
  • Friendly, calm and professional manner
  • Enjoy chatting to clients face to face and on the phone, building relationships with regulars.

Experience in veterinary is ideal, but for the right individual is not absolutely necessary.

Own transport is essential.

We can discuss the course, position and shifts / hours in more detail at interviews.
