Description:

6 Month Fixed Term Contract

At Pets at Home, we are navigating one of the most significant periods of regulatory change the veterinary sector has seen. As part of our ambition to build the best pet care business in the world, we’re looking for an experienced veterinary professional to play a critical role in shaping how Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) remedies are understood, translated and implemented across our Joint Venture practice network.

This is a unique opportunity to influence policy, protect clinical integrity, and support practice owners through complex change — while keeping pet welfare, client trust and sustainable commercial models at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

As the Veterinary Policy & Implementation Advisor, you’ll sit centrally within Vet Services, acting as a subject‑matter expert on CMA remedies and their clinical, operational and commercial impact. You’ll translate regulatory obligations into practical, vet‑led guidance that works in real first‑opinion practice — supporting Practice Owners (POs) to implement changes confidently while maintaining autonomy, professionalism and trust with clients.

A key part of the role is education and enablement. You’ll upskill Vet Services colleagues through training, workshops and clear guidance, ensuring the wider support network is aligned, informed and confident when working with practices during this period of change.

This is a field‑based role on a fixed 6‑month contract aligned to the CMA implementation phase, with travel to practices and occasional evening sessions required.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the Vet Services authority on CMA remedies, including pricing transparency, written estimates, itemised billing, prescription processes, parasiticide disclosure, complaints handling and informed consent.

  • Translate regulatory requirements into clear, practical SOPs, guidance and clinical workflows that work for Practice Owners.

  • Work closely with Legal, Regulatory, Operational, PMS and Education teams to ensure solutions are clinically sound, compliant and practical.

  • Support the integration of medicines supply and online pharmacy models in a way that maintains PO trust, client confidence and commercial sustainability.

  • Advise on client conversations around costs, treatment options and medicines pricing, supporting contextualised care and shared decision‑making.

  • Provide direct advisory support to Practice Owners and Vet Development Managers, including complex cases and escalations.

  • Identify PO pain points and feed them back into organisational learning and improvement.

  • Deliver training, webinars, workshops and written resources to ensure consistent understanding across the veterinary network.

  • Support alignment of systems, materials and communications with CMA requirements.

  • Contribute to quality improvement, governance and risk monitoring during implementation.

About You

You’ll be a clinically credible veterinary professional with strong communication skills and a deep understanding of how policy, commercial pressures and clinical decision‑making intersect in first‑opinion practice.

You’ll bring:

  • MRCVS registration and strong experience in UK first‑opinion veterinary practice.

  • Extensive experience discussing treatment options, costs and consent with clients.

  • A sound understanding of medicines prescribing, dispensing, pricing and workflows.

  • The ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, workable guidance.

  • Strong relationship‑building skills across clinical, operational and commercial teams.

  • Confidence engaging with Practice Owners and supporting them through change.

  • Excellent communication, coaching and facilitation skills.

  • A pragmatic, solutions‑focused mindset and ability to manage multiple complex workstreams.

Experience of practice ownership, policy interpretation, regulatory compliance or field‑based PO support would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Inclusion

Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage people to be themselves — so even if your experience doesn’t perfectly align, if you believe you can make a unique contribution, we want to hear from you.
