Description:

Veterinary Surgeon | Full or Part Time | No OOH | Salary up to £55,000

Are you an experienced small animal vet looking for a supportive team, genuine clinical freedom, and the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing practice?

We're excited to be recruiting a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and ambitious team at Portishead Vets for Pets. Whether you're looking for a full-time or part-time role, we'd love to hear from confident GP vets who enjoy a varied caseload, building strong client relationships, and working collaboratively with colleagues who enjoy supporting one another.

The Practice

Located in the beautiful coastal town of Portishead, our purpose-built practice is designed to provide a calm and comfortable environment for both patients and colleagues. We have separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards to help minimise stress, three spacious consulting rooms, a dedicated office area and colleague kitchen.

The practice is well equipped for first opinion medical and surgical work, and we have exciting plans to continue investing in the practice, including the introduction of laparoscopic equipment in the near future.

You'll benefit from genuine clinical freedom and the opportunity to make a real impact within a growing practice that's committed to delivering excellent patient care whilst maintaining a positive and supportive working culture.

Our Team

You'll be joining a close-knit and welcoming team consisting of 2.5 vets and 2-2.5 RVNs, supported by a fantastic reception team and an experienced Deputy Practice Manager who helps ensure the practice runs smoothly.

Our lead vet brings over 14 years’ of experience, much of which has been spent within a Tier 3 hospital environment, including time as Clinical Director. Holding a surgical certificate, they have a strong interest in surgery and are passionate about sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues' development.

Our nursing team is encouraged to fully utilise their skills, with opportunities for Schedule 3 procedures and professional development.

We are committed to creating an environment where collaboration comes naturally, with colleagues encouraged to discuss cases, share ideas and seek advice whenever needed.

Regular team meetings ensure everyone remains involved in the growth and direction of the practice, helping create a culture where every team member's voice is valued.

The Role

We're looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with ideally two or more years' experience in small animal practice. This role would suit a confident all-round GP vet who enjoys both medical and surgical cases, although a medicine bias would be complimentary to our lead vets skills set.

We understand that flexibility matters and are happy to discuss a range of working patterns.

Full-time role

  • 30-40 hours per week
  • 1 in 4 Saturdays (9am-4pm)

Part-time role

  • Approximately 20 hours per week
  • 1 in 4 Saturdays (9am-4pm)

We can offer flexibility around days and hours where possible, including consideration of school-hour working patterns for the right candidate.

A typical working day runs from 9am-7pm, with:

  • 15-minute consultations as standard
  • Longer appointments where clinically required
  • Dedicated admin time built into the diary throughout the day
  • 30-minute lunch break
  • A collaborative approach to case management and clinical support

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, values high standards of patient care, and wants to contribute to a positive and enjoyable working environment.

In Addition to a Rewarding Role, You Can Also Expect:

  • Salary up to £55,000 FTE, dependent on experience
  • No out-of-hours
  • 5.6 weeks holiday, rising with service
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Certificate support and funding available
  • Paid professional memberships (RCVS, BVA and VDS)
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Colleague reward hub and retail discounts
  • Employee Assistance Programmme
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture
  • Clinical freedom and opportunities to develop your interests
