Veterinary Surgeon – New practice owners, fun loving team. Certificates supported.
With exciting plans to develop our practice, we have an unmissable opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team in Llanrumney Vets for Pets.
The practice
We are an RCVS accredited small animal practice in the heart of our local community.
Under new ownership and now locally owned by Natalia and Toby, the role comes with great clinical freedom. The team sees a wide variety of medical and surgical cases, with 20-minute consults offered as a standard. You will also benefit from the wider network of practice owners and colleagues, as well as support from the Vets for Pets family.
By being part of a progressive and forward-thinking practice, we can guarantee the opportunity to utilise both your veterinary and people skills, whilst ensuring your ability to develop and nurture news ones.
Our team
Proudly owned by vet Natalia and seasoned practice manager Toby, you will be joining a close-knitted, friendly and supportive team. The crew is made up of 3 permanent veterinary surgeons, 3 super-human RVNs and 1 very enthusiastic student nurse, as well as an incredibly attentive client care team. Our senior vet holds a certificate in small animal surgery and is an absolute magician with orthopaedic cases. Natalia is currently working on a certificate towards internal medicine and ECC, with a keen interest in behaviour and geriatric care. Our experienced nursing team comes with a certificate holder in general anaesthesia, with others looking to develop further in microscopy, diagnostics imaging and internal medicine. We also love to utilise these knowledgeable nurses for their dedicated nurse clinics, namely dental and weight management, with senior clinic in the making. Last but not least, let’s talk about our awesome administrative team which is the backbone of what we do here. They’re highly experienced in customer service and insurance claims. Locally respected and compassionate to the core, they make our clients feel at ease especially during some of their most difficult moments in life. Toby our new owner has extensive experience in managing both first opinion and referral practices. There will be lots of brains to pick and plenty of learning opportunities in this role.
Our work environment
The practice is located in a convenient spot in Llanrumney, Cardiff, with many locals shops within walking distance. Parking and last-minute lunch grabs are never a problem. Our purpose-built practice comes equipped with the usual toys you would expect from a leading GP practice - 3 consult rooms, dedicated operating theatre, central preparation room, separate cat and dog wards, digital X-ray, a recently-upgraded ultrasound machine, endoscope, in-house laboratory, etc., with many more to come in order to benefit our growing clientele in the prospective future.
We have a great deal of awesome clients locally and from afar who entrust us with the compassionate and contextualised care that we provide. We are currently looking at becoming accredited as a cat-friendly clinic by the ISFM (International Society for Feline Medicine),as well as being certified as a peaceful-end-of-life practice by the CAETA (Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy). Natalia currently holds a Low Stress Handling® Silver Certification, and is looking to become a member of the IAAHPC (International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care).
The role
We’re in the unique position of offering this role without weekends and out of hours. We’re currently open Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am until 6pm, with the exception of Tuesdays when we are open till 8pm to accommodate for a few clients who simply cannot take time out of a unusually busy work day.
Ideally we are looking for a full-time colleague but will also consider part time hours for the right candidate. We’re looking for an experienced vet who feels confident with routine surgical and medical cases, but most importantly someone who enjoys building strong relationships with our patients, clients and the wider team. Given our current period of change, we’re not quite in the position to support a new/recent graduate, however with the right ambition and attitude, we would still love to meet you for a chat to appraise if you’d be a right fit for the team. Culture is what we prioritise whereas skills can be taught and built on.
We always encourage CPD and are happy to support studies towards a certificate. A keen interest in surgery or imaging would be welcomed but not essential.
In addition to a rewarding role in a superb location, you can also expect to receive:
- Competitive salary up to £70K FTE, dependant on experience
- No OOHs or weekends
- 5.6 weeks holiday, rising to 6.6 weeks with service
- Contributory pension scheme
- Generous CPD and funding of certificates
- Paid memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
- Cycle to work scheme
- Colleague reward hub – exclusive offers and discounts, online and on the high street including 20% off Pets at Home, the Groom room and Vets for Pets
- Employee Assistance Programme
