Description:

Veterinary Surgeon – Vets4Pets Basildon Pipps Hill
(Experienced Small Animal Vet, 3–5 Years+)

Are you a confident small animal vet looking to take your surgical or medical skills to the next stage in a genuinely supportive, clinically driven and well-equipped practice? Vets4Pets Basildon Pipps Hill is a 13-year-old, thriving and very busy small animal practice with a varied caseload and a strong focus on both surgery and internal medicine. We pride ourselves on offering the standards and opportunities of a referral-style environment while maintaining the friendly, collaborative feel of a first-opinion practice.

Within our experienced team, we have vets holding a PgCert in Small Animal Surgery, a colleague completing a certificate in Internal Medicine, and another with a master's degree in ECC and Anaesthesia. We are passionate about structured support, mentoring and skill development, and we actively encourage and sponsor postgraduate certificates for vets who wish to advance their clinical capabilities.

Clinically, we are exceptionally well equipped. Our surgical caseload includes orthopaedic procedures such as fracture repairs, stifle surgeries including TPLO, angular limb deformity corrections and trochlear prosthesis, alongside a wide range of soft tissue and oncological surgeries involving thoracic, abdominal and upper respiratory systems, including BOAS procedures and complex wound reconstruction. We also utilise bipolar and monopolar diathermy and harmonic scalpel technology to support advanced surgical work. Our endoscopy suite is fully equipped for laparoscopic surgery—including spays and biopsies—rhinoscopy, video-otoscopy, cystoscopy, gastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy. Imaging is a key part of our service, with dental radiography and a high-end cart-based ultrasound machine with excellent abdomaina, thoracic, cardiac and superficial MSK capability. We also have easy access to CT and MRI at a nearby practice, allowing us to perform advanced imaging on an outpatient basis.

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon with around three to five years of small animal experience, ideally someone surgically inclined and enthusiastic about progressing further, although a candidate with a strong interest in ophthalmology, exotics or cardiology would also be a valuable addition to our clinical team. Equally, an all-rounder with solid GP skills who enjoys a varied caseload and continuous learning would thrive here. Above all, we are looking for a supportive team player who enjoys case discussions, shared learning and doing the right thing for patients and clients.

In return, we offer a competitive salary £50,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience), RCVS registration, VDS cover, BVA membership, private medical insurance and group retail discounts. Our working pattern is designed to support work–life balance, with a four-day working week and a 1:4–1:5 weekend rota that includes Saturday and Sunday, and importantly, we have no out-of-hours requirement. Our practice is also ideally located with excellent transport links and direct train connections into London, making commuting or enjoying the city incredibly easy.

If this sounds like the environment where you could grow, contribute and enjoy your work, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Lizzie from our Talent Acquisition team via email; eastvets@vets4pets.com for an informal and confidential conversation.
