Whether you’re aiming to progress into a senior role, work towards a certificate, or develop a particular clinical passion, Hemsworth Vets for Pets offers far more than just a job, we offer a genuinely tailored career path built around you.

This is an opportunity to join a practice where your voice is heard, your ideas are valued, and your professional growth is actively encouraged every step of the way.

About the Practice

Our standalone practice is truly unique, set within a beautifully converted former fire station. The result is a bright, spacious, and modern working environment, thoughtfully designed to support both exceptional clinical care and colleague wellbeing.

We’re fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, allowing you the time, space, and tools to work up cases properly and practice high-quality medicine locally. Over the years, we’ve built a loyal and supportive client base, and as the practice continues to grow, there’s significant opportunity for further development and innovation.

You’ll be joining a collaborative, welcoming team who are passionate about gold-standard care, teamwork, and making a real difference to the pets and people of our community.

Location & Lifestyle

Hemsworth is a thriving market town with excellent transport connections. The practice is just a short walk from the bus station, with routes across Barnsley, Wakefield, Pontefract, and Doncaster. With easy access to the M1 and A1, cities such as Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester are all within comfortable reach, ideal if you enjoy balancing countryside living with city convenience.

In your downtime, there’s plenty to explore. From the historic grounds of Nostell Priory to outdoor activities at Hemsworth Water Park, and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside, the area offers something for everyone whether you prefer relaxed walks, family-friendly days out, or vibrant social scenes.

The Role

This role is designed to be fully flexible, with options including:

  • Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Part-time (minimum 24 hours per week)
  • Flexible working patterns to suit your lifestyle

Weekends are shared fairly across the team, and there are no out-of-hours requirements, supporting a healthy and sustainable work–life balance.

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who brings:

  • Experience in small animal general practice
  • Confidence with sole charge when required
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for gold-standard patient care

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to grow and we’re committed to supporting that growth in whatever direction suits you best.

Career Development

Your development truly matters to us. Whether you’re keen to pursue a certificate or postgraduate qualification, step into leadership, or explore new clinical services, we’ll actively encourage and fund your ambitions. Have ideas to improve the practice or expand what we offer? We’ll listen and support you in making them happen.

In return for your skills and dedication, we offer a competitive package that includes:

  • Salary up to £80,000 DOE
